Tomorrow's Green Product
Starts Today
In 1800, Volta invented the first true battery, storing and releasing a charge through a chemical reaction instead of physically, which came to be known as the voltaic pile created by Alessandro Volta (born February 18, 1745, Como, Lombardy [Italy]—died March 5, 1827, Como) was an Italian physicist whose invention of the electric battery provided the first source of continuous current.
INVENTION OF THE BATTERY
A battery is essentially a device that stores chemical energy that is converted into electricity. Basically, batteries are small chemical reactors, with the reaction producing energetic electrons, ready to flow through the external device.
American scientist and inventor Benjamin Franklin first used the term "battery" in 1749 when he was doing experiments with electricity using a set of linked capacitors. Today batteries come in a range of sizes from large Megawatt sizes, which store the power from solar farms or substations to guarantee stable supply in entire villages or islands, down to tiny batteries like those used in electronic watches.
